Tonight, sadly, is the last camp on our trip. We are set up at Congo Campground in Eurobodalla National Park, one of our favourite campsites.

After leaving Ceduna we travelled to Kimba in South Australia where we set up for the night. The next day our sights were set on Clare Valley where we took some time out for some wine tasting and to replenish our cellar. The drive from Kimba, via Port Augusta down to the Clare Valley was beautiful.

Next camp was at Cockatoo Lake in South Australia where we awoke to a flock of sheep wandering around our campsite and where we watched the birds swoop down onto the lake. It was a beautiful peaceful campsite, amongst the vineyards in the Coonawarra region. (of course we stocked up on more wine).

After the peacefulness of Cockatoo Lake we headed to Portland Caravan Park and took a walk up to the lighthouse. The views were stunning, although very cold and windy.

We headed towards the Great Ocean Road, first stop was Port Fairy – another favourite place, where we took some time to wander around the shops and restock with food. We continued on to Apollo Bay, staying for two nights as there was an international bike race on and the roads were closed. We made the most of it by visiting the local Brewery for a meal and trying to keep out of the wind. We came across Vegemite ice cream here and Rod just had to give it a go. Probably only need to try it once!

We continued our trip along the Great Ocean Road, always a beautiful drive, finally after a big driving day crossed the border into Victoria and headed to Warragul.

After a night at Lakes Entrance we crossed the border into NSW and camped at Pambula. Home was now firmly in sight. A stop off at Bodalla Cheese Factory was a necessity to stock up with nibbles to have with our final drinks at our final camp.

We have certainly been on a journey! We are so thankful that we were able to go on this adventure around Australia. We have travelled around 23,600kms.

Each day presented us with new experiences, new places to visit and an ever changing diverse landscape. We met some amazing people, shared lots of laughs, cooked over campfires, ate amazing food, and enjoyed a beer or two in local breweries. We trekked through beautiful landscapes, looked in wonder at the night skies, gazed out over vistas that really did take our breath away, and camped in remote campsites where you feel you are the only people on earth.

Through all this we were so cosy and comfortable in our little motorhome ‘Where’s Wallee’. We slept soundly at night, and woke to an ever changing view outside our window. In the evening when it was time to turn in from the outside world, we could cook up a delicious dinner, watch movies or more often than not, played a couple of rounds of Rummykub.

For anyone thinking of doing ‘the lap’ or travelling throughout Australia, we say DO IT! – DON’T HESITATE! It is so worth it.

We were away for almost 6 months. Some days the time went quickly, on others we were able to luxuriate in long peaceful days. Either way this adventure has made us keen to regroup and hit the road again in the not too distant future. There is so much more to explore!

Thank you for coming along the journey with us. I hope you enjoyed the snippets that we have included in this blog which will serve as a wonderful reminder to Rod and I of some of the wonderful places we visited, the people we met and the fantastic experiences we had on our Big Trip around Australia.
