What an amazing place to visit! The Daintree is like no other place we have ever been, the diversity in plants, the size of the plants, the sounds of the rainforest make this place so unique.
We crossed the Daintree Ferry, which is the only way to get up into the Daintree and followed a winding narrow road. We were often stalled due to major roadworks being undertaken to rectify the road slips that had occurred back when cyclone Jasper battered the rainforest in 2023. We eventually arrived at our campground at the Daintree Siesta which was a haven amongst the tall rainforest. It was the perfect spot to base ourselves while we investigated the area further.
We drove up to Cape Tribulation, the most northern point in Queensland we will get to on this trip. It was an amazingly beautiful place. One thing we noticed all along the beaches in the Daintree was the amazing peacefulness you feel up here. I think being surrounded by so much beautiful nature certainly has a soothing effect.
We walked a few established tracks and boardwalks into the rainforest and sat and soaked up the beautiful beaches.
We didn’t see any crocodiles, and we didn’t seek any out! We have been on crocodile tours before, and this time decided we would just leave them on their own, without our company, although on a few of our walks there was evidence they were there recently.
So we leave the Daintree, thankful for the opportunity to be able to spend some time in such a sacred place.
Next leg we head south to the Atherton Tablelands.
