We decided to change our itinerary. After Derby we were going to start to make our way back, but instead we have decided to go on to Broome and then spend a couple of days up at Cape Leveque. Rod and I have been to Cape Leveque before, and it is a place we have always wanted to return to, so seeing we were so close (only about 300kms away – which is close after all the miles we have travelled) we decided to deviate and forsake our trip to Wolf Creek in liew of Cape Leveque -(which isn’t half as scary!) so after the day out at Horizontal Falls, we made our way to Broome to restock and for a little bit of retail therapy (hey, had to fit that in to the road trip somewhere!)

We took the road to Cape Leveque (which was a little scary) and made our way to Gynlmarung Aboriginal Community where we set up camp for the next 2 nights. Alphonse, the owner of the land where we camped, made us very welcome. It is certainly an idyllic place. The beach here is beautiful and I couldn’t stop taking photographs, I have included a selection here, but it was hard to choose which ones to put on the blog out of the 100 or so I took – just of the beach! Guilluame and I spent a couple of hours pottering around the rockpools taking photographs and came across quite a few interesting creatures. Back at camp there was also an interesting creature, a huge red belly black rubber snake called ‘Hamish’ that Matt thought was a good addition to our camp!!! There were a few choice words in camp that night! Besides the ‘Hamish incident’ – It is so peaceful here and extremely isolated, it will be so hard to leave. We took a drive up to Cape Leveque which was the turnaround point for our trip – we are halfway there and now will slowly make our way back home. So far we have travelled about 6,300 kms.

Hi Fed good hear from you on the post. They still have the shacks at cape leveque, but it has changed quite a lot since we were there last, has become a bit commercialised, but is still beautiful. Take care. Love to Fliss and kids.

Hey guys, enjoy Broome. Be sure to have a camel ride along Cable Beach, but watch out for the nudie beach up there! Cocktails at sunset are nice there too 🙂
