A sea of salt
Rod on the snow, I mean salt.
Well we decided to put the Prado and the Pod through its paces today – unintentionally! We decided to go and have a look at Lake Eyre. Well to get to Lake Eyre you need to follow a ‘track’ across the desert for about 67kms. The ‘track’ was just that, full of large corrugations, major potholes and dust. On the way along the track the landscape was unbelieveable, and changeable, one minute we drove through sparse desert country and then through featureless black rocks that looked just like a moonscape. When we finally arrived at Lake Eyre, just a bit shaken up, we realised it was well worth the effort. Before us was a huge expanse of salt – as far as the eye could see. Quite sureal, it looked like snow and crunched just like snow when you walked on it. This was a major contrast to South Lake Eyre, which we visited yesterday, which had water in it. Spending the night in Coober Pedy – might shout ourselves an underground motel room seeing its getting late.

On the way to Lake Eyre – moonscape
Prado, Pod and Rod – all holding up well.

Dear Vonny & Roddy, I have LOVED reading this blog. You are obviously having a great time. And your photos area really wonderful. The colours are incredible. So much variety. I especailly like the ones with gold from the setting sun. It’s been an amazing journey (back in time?) for me to see the Australian landscape through your eyes. Thank you. Can I ask you – what kind of camera are your using? And is it the SLR?
