The weather continued to not play nice as we left gusty Augusta and continued on to Pemberton.

The rains came again and of course we picked this day to walk across a swing bridge over raging Beedelup Falls near Pemberton. A bit hairy crossing the bridge, but we did it! We congratulated ourselves with a hot chocolate at the chocolate factory after that effort.

On to Denmark. Here we stayed at Duckett Mill Winery, where after sampling their wine, set up camp next to their vineyard where we watched the sun set as we drifted in a haze of a beautiful Semilion.

Next day we ventured into the forests. The rain was starting to clear so the forests were full of fresh damp air that seemed to magnify all the colours. We found the Big Tree Grove which felt like a sacred place, with very tall old and wise Karri trees reaching to the sky. Some of the trees were over 300 years old. So beautiful and majestic.

We also did the treetop walk, which took us high amongst the tall trees. This gave us a birds-eye view from the tree tops.

We then visited the coast including Elephant Rocks.

On to Albany where we enjoyed visiting the shops and had a lovely Vietnamese lunch. Then to The Gap and Misery Beach. Again the coastline was amazing.

Next stop was Bremmer Bay where we stayed for a couple of nights then to Hopetoun where we met some great people and enjoyed a few bevvies with them at the local pub overlooking the ocean.

And so to Esperance.

There’s a lot of hype about Esperance and the southern coastline. Everywhere we went people said to us ‘wait until you see Esperance’ – and they were not wrong.

Esperance more than lived up to the hype, it absolutely blew us away! As we approached the first of the beaches on the Scenic Ocean Drive we couldn’t believe our eyes! The water was the bluest aqua and crystal clear, the sand was white and fine and the beaches went for miles.

11 mile beach.

Finally the weather changed and we had long sunny days to explore the beautiful beaches. We couldn’t ask for better weather.

We took a drive to Lucky Bay and took in magnificent coastal vistas, each one had bright aqua water and shiny white sand – the signature of Esperance. The town was lovely also, we took a walk along the pier, watching dolphins play, and had a delicious brekkie at Bread Local.

Oh, and we also visited Stonehenge which was an exact replica of the one in the UK except this one was built using Esperance Pink Granite.

It’s been a busy few weeks. We have had a lovely time here on the South Coast, next stop we are heading to Kalgoorlie and the Goldfields.
