We left Darwin and travelled to Katherine where we stayed for one night at Manbulloo Homestead. The next day we spent the night off grid at Big Horse Creek campsite in Gregory National Park, just outside of Timber Creek before we crossed the border. We passed through the mandatory quarantine inspection with flying colours, except for the quarantine inspector asking me to peel a bulb of fresh ginger she found in our fridge.

We continued onto WA with our sights set on Lake Argyle where we stayed for a couple of days.  After a stock up in Kunanurra, we arrived at Lake Argyle, where we swam in the amazing infinity pool (again) and did a 5km walk to the Bluff which gave us amazing views over the Lake.  

On our last visit here 13 years ago (which you can read about here) it was a much quieter place, but the beautiful landscape still blew us away.  This time we decided to do a lunch cruise on the Lake itself which was amazing. Even while cruising around the Lake it was difficult to grasp how large the Lake is – 21 times bigger than Sydney Harbour.  We had a great day on the lake. Rod had a swim and the cruise captain threw the swimmers beers, which they enjoyed while swimming around. It was lots of fun and laughs. It wasn’t long before it was time to head out and continue further on into WA. The landscape has been amazing and we are free camping along the roadside off grid wherever we can. The distances between stops are huge, we try and travel around 300-400km per day. Next update is planned from Karijini National Park – one of the anticipated highlights of our trip.
