We crossed the border which was very exciting and our first stop was a free camp along the highway. It was called The Antenna – only us and 3 other vans stopped there, on the side of the highway looking out over the ranges. It was peaceful and quite surreal, knowing we were really in such an isolated place.

We travelled long distances on these days, around 400kms per day, so by the end of each day we were pleased to put our feet up and enjoy a beer.

The next stop was Dunmurra Roadhouse where we enjoyed yet another beautiful sunset. The weather has been amazing, no rain and top temps of around 28 which is really pleasant.

From there we made our way to Mataranka Hot Springs where we camped for 2 nights – along with everyone else! Unfortunately we hit school holidays, so this was a very popular spot. From there we moved on to Bitter Springs which was also lovely.

We next spent 2 nights at The Banyan Tree Resort, which was an amazing oasis just at the entrance to Litchfield National Park. It was a great place to base ourselves while we spent the next 2 days exploring Litchfield with its amazing waterfalls and swimming holes.

From here it’s on to Darwin to meet up with our travel buddies Julie and Brian. We plan to spend a couple of weeks with them in Darwin before we all hit the road together to explore Western Australia. Rod is planning on doing some work on ‘Where’s Wallee’ while we are there, Brian is putting the final touches on their Unimog (affectionately named LooneyMog by Zephyr) and I am looking forward to some ‘catch up time’ with Julie and getting to experience whatever Darwin has to offer. Until next time!
