Woke this morning to find the tent frozen solid, so had a late start so it (and us) could thaw out a bit. It’s a beautiful sunny day here and we are looking forward to starting on the Oodnaodatta track today. Drove through the Flinders Ranges National Park through Brachina Gorge which was absolutely breathtaking. Everywhere we turned the vista was amazing. The colours of the different types of rocks that had been dated to be 530 million years old were amazing. We came across an old homestead – and Rod thought he would try out the toilet (not literally) but to get an idea of what it was like in the 1800’s.It is amazing to think how this pile of rocks where such an important part of life many years ago.

Here we go – where not many people have gone before us (except grey nomads!)

Our Campsite at Coward Springs
The landscape here continues to completely blow us away. It is so diverse, rugged and beautiful, and changes constantly. We were travelling along from the Flinders ranges up to Maree to pick up the Oodnadatta track when an Emu with a death wish decided to run in front of the car, luckily we just missed it, you don’t tend to look out for emus, just roos, and there are plenty of both out here. We made our way to Coward Springs where we set up camp. Well…this is definately 1 billion star camping, the night sky is fantastic and the campground is perfect….we really don’t want to leave here. The view of the stars from the outback is something everyone should experience, it is simply amazing. Tomorrow heading out to do more of the Oodnadatta track.
